When we lived in San Diego my favorite day of the week was always Saturdays. We would start the morning off with a run on the bay and finish it off on the beach with an acai bowl from this little juice shop in Mission Beach called Juice Wave. I can't tell you how AMAZING their acai bowls were. They were SO fresh (not pre-frozen bowls like a lot of places) and topped with local honey and homemade almond or peanut butter that they made right there. They are to die for and something I miss.
While my homemade acai bowl can't compete with Juice Wave's it is a nice treat to help curve my cravings until I can get back to San Diego and get another one. :)
These acai bowls are simple, creamy, and satisfying. Enjoy!!
Ingredients:
1 packet of frozen acai (Trader Joe's and Fresh Thyme carry frozen packets)
1/2 frozen banana
1/4 cup frozen cherries
1/2 cup of ice
1 cup of almond or coconut milk
Optional: A scoop of collagen protein powder (I use vanilla collagen-flavor blends well)
Blend the ingredients above in a high-speed blender until smooth.
Toppings:
Fresh fruit such as blueberries, sliced strawberries, raspberries and banana
1 tbs of hemp seeds, pee bollen, chia seeds, etc.
2 tbs of granola (I used my grain-free granola recipe which you can find here)
Abdrizzle of local honey
1 BIG tbs of peanut or almond butter :)
